HG-40 groves to supply fresh food to an Arctic research station
Six modules will grow salad, herbs and strawberries for a crew of 30 through the polar night.
WAGENINGEN, Netherlands, 20 February 2024
TriOptimum Agrisystems will supply six HG-40 grove modules to a national Arctic research station, where they will grow fresh salad, herbs and strawberries for a crew of up to 30 through the four months of polar night.
The modules, which were developed for Citadel Station, will be delivered by sea in July and linked into a single grove in a converted store building. They will be operated by the station’s crew and monitored remotely from Wageningen.
A grove that works in orbit works in the Arctic. The difference is that in the Arctic, the crew can step outside to admire it, briefly.
